FREDERICK JOHN FAWCETT II ’53 died April 8, 2008 in Beverly, Mass. After graduation he served in the army in Germany. Later he was president  of Frederick  J. Fawcett Inc., of Boston, importers and manufacturer’s representatives in the textile industry. He also was a history teacher and busi­ness manager at Tower School, in Marblehead. A gifted singer and former Krokodiloe, he contin­ued to sing in choral groups all his life. His love of sailing led to a keen interest in preserving na­ture’s open spaces. He was past president of the Massachusetts Association of Conservation Com­missions. He leaves his wife, Betsey (Chilcott), a daughter, Amelia, a son, Sean, and a brother, F. Conger ’56, LL.B. ’62.

Frederick John Fawcett II, of Essex, a committed environmentalist and president of the Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at the Beverly Hospital. He was 76. Born in Newton, Mr. Fawcett graduated from Phillips Academy Andover and Harvard College. After graduating from Harvard, Mr. Fawcett served in the US Army in Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany. Mr. Fawcett was president of Frederick J. Fawcett Inc. of Boston and, subsequently taught history and was the finance director at Tower School in Marblehead. Mr. Fawcett was a talented musician, singing with a wide range of organizations, including Grace Church Newton as a boy chorister, Harvard Krokodiloes and Hasty Pudding Theatricals, Sangerfest and the choirs of the Church of the Advent in Boston and St. John’s Church in Beverly Farms, where he also was a lay reader. Growing up sailing on the coast of Massachusetts, Mr. Fawcett turned that life-long passion into a dedication to preserving nature’s open spaces. Mr. Fawcett leaves his wife, Betsey (Chilcott); daughter, Amelia of London; son, Sean, and daughter-in-law, Amy of Belmont; a brother, Conger of San Francisco; and three grandchildren, Margaret, Caroline and Haley.
