Soon after graduating in 1955, Randolph entered the ship brokerage business working for, and then running, Poten & Partners in New York City. They specialized in oil tanker, gas, and cry cargo ship charter activities and expanded into energy consultation on his watch. He traveled extensively around the world as a part of his work and to pursue his passions for bird shooting and fly fishing, getting the record in January of 1991 for the largest brown trout (29-¾ pounds) caught on a fly rod in Tierra del Fuego. He loved flying and earned the Air Transport Pilots rating, flying about 150 hours annually. He was physically active – participating in golf, tennis, squash, and jogging. He engaged in charitable and civic activities as a trustee and Police Commissioner in Mill Neck, then Old Brookville, and as a Locust Valley Fire Department commissioner. He also served on commercial and non-commercial boards. He married Amey Mackinney (Radcliffe ’54), had three children, Randolph Jr, Alexander, and Elise, and six grandchildren.
